Moody Blues - Where Did All Your Sunshine Go?

Are you a complicated person, 'like night and day' depending on the mood you're in? Does that make you more interesting, perhaps a bit mysterious even? People afflicted with being moody frequently believe this; they rarely imagine that others find them just more difficult. What could be behind this kind of behavior?

We all know people who seem to always be up, even keeled; and then there are those who frequently seem to be down and irritable. The moody blues people often attract partners who act as their 'savior.' These people are the survivors who believe they can 'take it;' someone willing to be victimized as they pay some imaginary debt they have assumed the responsibility for. We all get our strokes from some part of our behavior.

Imagine that your attention and focus all act in the same manner as a camera lens. People who are positive and easy to communicate with have a perception that performs like a wide-angle lens. The filters are off, there is no distortion of their expanded view.. They can see far more as their attention is focused outward; the filters of judgment and insecurity are off, their perception unrestrained. These people accept what they see, find joy in where it is available and mostly look for the best in every situation. They laugh in the face of disaster because they don't accept it as finality. They are looking for the bend in the road that allows things to right themselves. Therefore the mirth spills out, and may seem inappropriate at times.

Moody blues people have their blinders on, just like race horses.Their attention is focused inward, forcing tunnel vision that blocks the interesting and joyful things happening around them. When we focus our attention inward we frequently find every flaw, imaginary and real. Small things can grow to epic proportions in the fertile soil of their minds. Someone who takes their trash out and makes too much noise becomes a combatant attempting to steal their peace. Everything is magnified as we focus intently... everything. And so, those flaws, those slights and all the things they see through their narrowed lens are amplified.

If being blue and difficult has become tiresome, even to you, take the time to flip the blinders back and look outside yourself. Spend some time looking without any prejudgment at life as it unfolds around you. It is far more interesting and entertaining than searching intently for flaws that just might be important.

We are all born with the same wide-angle lens, and the ability to focus our attention at will. Our filters are frequently a learned response. Nothing that causes us to be judgmental or caustic about life originates through our careful research. It springs from a well we were drinking from in our childhood or our association with others. It's not really you, but rather a response you have learned and accepted as reality.

They're your lens, only you can control the view.
